Is the never-ending stream of junk
mail bringing you down?
Do you cringe at the thought of how many
trees are landing on your counter-tops?
Getting rid of the endless offers can
take a little elbow grease and persistence but, in the end you will
have more time on your hands to enjoy the magazines you really like!
Here are some resources to help control the flow of paper once and
for all.
Here are some actions you can take to
avoid the ‘junk-mail’ heap:
Direct Marketing Association
(DMA) Mail Preference Service PO Box 9008 Farmingdale NY 11735-9008
Be sure to include your name (plus
any spelling variation used on labels) and address. Within four
months of your written request, you should notice a significant
decrease in the volume of direct mail you receive.
-
Catalogs:
If you have previously requested or have made purchases from a
catalog, you will have to contact them individually – even if you
have registered with DMAchoice™. It would be helpful to have your
customer number or source code which is located on the back of the
catalog. When canceling, take this opportunity to request that they
not sell your name!
Of you want to stop mail from being
sent to a deceased individual, you'll need to register for the
Deceased Do Not Contact List.
If you want to manage mail sent to a
dependent in your care, you'll need to register for the
Do Not
Contact for Caregivers List.
-
Credit card offers:
Register at
OptOutPrescreen.com and you will have the choice to opt out for
five years or indefinitely.
Phone Line: Be sure to request for no phone solicitation
nationally. Contact the
Telephone Preference Service (TPS)
